Juno Workflow Guide
This is a step-by step guide for preparing tax returns using a workflow we recommend following, but is NOT required to use Juno successfully. We encourage each firm to find how to utilize Juno in their workflow in the way that works best for them!
Step 1: Client Creation + Document Upload Document
If your firm uses TaxDome or Firm 360:
- Select the appropriate documents in TaxDome or Firm 360 and click “Send to Juno.”
If your firm uses Karbon:
- Open the preparation in Juno Preparer and confirm return details before clicking "Continue".
If your firm uses other Practice Management Software:
- Click “Start Tax Preparation” and select the client from the drop down (or enter their details if the client doesn’t exist yet).
- Drag and drop all scanned PDF files into the Juno drag-and-drop upload area.
Best Practices for document upload:
- Non-standard IRS formats, screenshots, or scans are acceptable, but blurry images will not get high quality results.
- Keep PDFs under 75 pages to ensure correct page orientation after processing.
For more general tips on document uploads, see Using Juno Effectively.
Step 2: Data Validation
- Within the validation screen, locate documents in the "Awaiting Review" status. Open the documents by clicking “Review Data”, then verify and click “Validate” and validate any fields that surfaced for human reviewer.
- If a document has been classified incorrectly, utilize the “Reprocess Document” feature.
- Any document classified as “Not Supported” will not be exported by Juno. It’s great to keep these documents in here even if they require manual entry, as they can still be utilized in the Juno Binder!
Step 3: Export Validated Data to Tax Software
For a step by step guide on the export specific to each tax software, please see the appropriate article in our Knowledge Base.
Step 4: Review Preparation Checklist
- Once the export is complete, open the return in your Tax Software.
- Review the Preparation Checklist in the Juno Integration App to identify any items that were not exported by Juno.
- Review each item and make the manual adjustment in the return if applicable.
- Once the adjustment is made, check the box in the Preparation checklist to mark the item as resolved across the Preparation Checklist, Binder, and Reviewer.
Step 5: Run Reviewer
- Save the return in your tax software, then download a pdf copy of the draft return.
- We generally recommend uploading the Client Copy since there can be less attachments, which helps reduce the processing time of Juno Reviewer
- In Juno, navigate to the “Reviewer” Tab and select “Reviewer” for the client
- Upload the draft return, as well as the prior year 1040 and Organizer if applicable. Mark each file as the correct document type using the drop down
- Click “Continue” and allow the documents a few minutes to process
Step 6: Utilize Reviewer
- Once the Processing in Reviewer is complete, go through each tab.
- If there are any issues that need to be fixed in the return, make the applicable updates in the tax software.
- If the prior year return was uploaded, investigate variances highlighted in the “Line by Line” analysis and the “Year over year Document” analysis.
- Utilize Binder to review and sign off on the source documents from the client
- If changes were made in the previous step, re-upload the updated current-year 1040 and re-run reviewer so Juno can analyze the updated return.

Utilizing the Juno Binder and WorkpaperThe Juno Binder and Workpaper are available to all Juno users and can be utilized throughout both the prep and review stages. You can sign off and mark up pages directly in the Binder, with all changes saved and visible across your team. We encourage you to explore how these tools fit best into your version of the workflow outlined above!
