Video Demo Instructions:

Want to see a video demo of how to use Binder in Juno? You can do so below.

PDF Binder & Checklist Tool

Juno’s Binder provides a structured, consistent space to organize and mark up source documents, track preparation notes, and visually confirm completion using built-in review tools. It’s designed to help teams work together to produce a clean, review-ready workpaper package right inside the Reviewer workflow. Binder is not a tool with strict rules to follow. It’s a product where you can apply your own process, using a variety of tools to streamline the review processes your firm has in place.

Once a preparation has all source documents validated you’ll be able to open the Binder in the Reviewer tab of Juno.

Organized PDF Workpapers

The Binder automatically organizes all of the source documents you’ve uploaded into Preparer into one PDF. Documents appear in the order in which they would appear on the tax return.

Within the Binder, you are able to save these workers both with and without markup. To download the files, click the printer icon in the top right of the screen. Based on preference, you can select to print with or without annotations

Tax Preparation Checklist

As a preparation is exported, Juno identifies the items that it does not export to your tax software. These data points are displayed both in the Preparation Checklist and in the Binder on the source documents they originate from. These insights help teams avoid missed entries, reduce manual data-hunting, and speed up preparation significantly.

Navigating the Binder

You'll notice that there are several ways to navigate through the Binder.

On the left side of your screen you'll see both the Document Tree and the Remaining Review Items tabs.

Document Tree

The Document Tree allows you to quickly view which documents have received sign offs and on click of a page you will be taken directly to that page within the Binder.

Remaining Review Items

In the Remaining Review Items tab you get a clear list of the remaining items your team has to review. This list is populated based on the annotations and comments you apply to the Binder.

On click of any of these items and you will be taken directly to the page it pertains to. You can also hover over a review item and see the "Juno Green" highlight to indicate which one it pertains to.

Binder Tool Overview

The Binder tool has a full suite of markup, annotation, and collaboration tools. Depending on your firm’s process you can choose to utilize the tools available to you in a way that makes the most sense for your firm. Below we’ll outline the tools available to you.

Multilevel Sign‑offs

Binder supports multiple layers of sign‑off so that preparers, reviewers and partners can show when they’ve completed their part of the work. Users can click to apply their corresponding level of sign-offs to each document, making it clear which steps are done and which are still pending. Removing a sign‑off is just as easy, click again to clear the checkmark and reopen the work for editing.

When applied sign-offs will display on the left side of the screen in the Document Tree

Stamps

Stamps let you quickly label a document without typing. They function like digital rubber stamps - simply choose a stamp (such as Reviewed, Needs Follow‑Up, or Completed) and click where you want to apply it. In Juno’s Binder, stamps help reviewers communicate status at a glance and reduce the need for handwritten notes. Stamps stay anchored to the PDF page even if the document is reorganized, so nothing gets lost.

It is important to note that placing a stamp creates an item in our Review Items list. More on this below.

Calculator

A built‑in Calculator allows you to perform arithmetic directly in the Binder. You can add values to the calculator and once you have your desired sum you can place the calculator icon where you would like. This allows you and your team to click the Calculator to see the corresponding values that add to the sum that displays on the Binder. This is handy for adding subtotals or checking a client’s math without leaving the binder.

Anchor

The Anchor tool lets you link related items together. For example, you might place an anchor next to a W‑2 amount and then link it to the corresponding line on the tax return. Anchors act as bookmarks or targets—once placed, you can use these to jump between pages.

Important note: When placing the second half of an Anchor you can use the Document Tree on left to navigate to the desired document.

Green, Yellow and Red Checkmarks

The Checkmark tools are very straightforward and allow users to place checkmarks on the documents when desired.

Comments

The Comment tool allows firms to collaborate and communicate with each other in dedicate comment threads. You can also use the right side of the screen to navigate to specific comment threads. Doing so will auto scroll you to the page of the Binder associated with the comment thread.

Like Stamps and the Calculator, placing a comment will log a Review Item within the Remaining Review Items tab. This allows firms to know which comment threads have been resolved and which ones remain outstanding.

Other Markup/Annotation Tools

Binder includes a suite of standard markup tools to help you annotate PDF workpapers:

  • Lines and shapes: Draw lines, rectangles or circles to highlight a section of the document or create simple diagrams. These shapes stay tied to the PDF page.

  • Text boxes: Add typed notes anywhere on the page. You can adjust the font size and position to suit your needs.

  • Highlights: Use a digital highlighter to emphasize key numbers or text; color options help differentiate between preparer notes and reviewer questions.

Using Binder With Your Team

You can save by clicking on the save button in the top left corner of the page. This ensures your updates are kept and the next person who opens the binder is working from the most accurate, up-to-date version.

Binder allows only one team member to work in a file at a time, so it’s important to wrap up your session by saving any changes you’ve made.

Downloading/Printing Binders

Juno allows you to download/print each Binder with or without annotations. To do this, click the printer icon in the upper right corner and select whether or not you would like to download with or without annotations.
