Overview
This article walks you through preparing a business return in Juno from start to finish. Juno supports 1120 (C Corporation), 1120S (S Corporation), and 1065 (Partnership) returns.

Step 1: Start in Preparer
Similar to 1040 returns, you'll start on the Preparer Dashboard, where all of your individual and business returns are now listed.
To filter the table to business returns only, use the Return Type filter and select Business.
To start a new business return, click “Start Tax Preparation”
Step 2: Select a Return Type
After clicking + New Return, select the appropriate return type for your client.
You'll see four options:
1040 — Individual return
1120 — C Corporation
1120S — S Corporation
1065 — Partnership
Select your desired business return type and click Continue.
Step 3: Select or Add a Client
On the Select Client screen, choose an existing business client or create a new one.
To select an existing client:
Use the dropdown to search for the client. The list is filtered to show only clients that match the return type you selected in Step 2.
To add a new client:
Click Add New Client.
Complete the following fields:
Business Name (required)
EIN (required)
Email (optional)
Phone (optional)
End of Period (required) — defaults to the end of the prior tax year; use the calendar picker to adjust if needed.
Accounting Method (required) — select Cash or Accrual.
Click Save.
Step 4: Add the Prior Year Return (Optional)
While optional, by providing the prior year return Juno will surface additional insights and action items related to your client’s prior year return.
Step 5: Upload or Import Financial Data
On the Upload/Import Data screen, you'll bring in your client's financial documents for the current tax year.
Option A — Import from QuickBooks Online or Xero:
Select "Fetch Documents" next to the corresponding software.
Sign in to your QuickBooks or Xero account when prompted.
After connecting, click Fetch Documents again.
Assign a document classification to each uploaded file:
Income Statement
Balance Sheet
K-1
Other
The Continue button remains locked until every document has been classified.
Option B — Upload Files Manually:
Drag and drop files into the upload area, or click to browse.

Note: You can adjust the End of Period and Accounting Basis for this return by clicking the Settings button on this screen.
Step 6: Validate Documents in the Document Overview
After uploading or importing, you'll arrive at the Document Overview screen. This screen lists all documents associated with the return and their current processing status.
Document statuses:
Processing — Juno is analyzing the document. No action needed yet.
Awaiting Review — The document is ready for your review.
Not Supported — Juno was unable to process this document type.
Validated — You've reviewed and confirmed this document.
Important: The Continue button is inactive until all documents show a Validated status. You must validate each document before proceeding.
Step 7: Review and Validate the Profit & Loss Statement
For each Income Statement document, you can complete a line-by-line validation. To open the validation screen click the “Review Data” button associated with the P&L Statement.
The review table includes the following columns:
Account Entry — the line item name from the client's financial records
Prior Year YTD — prior year total, (if the prior year return was uploaded in step 4)
Tax Year YTD — current year total as imported or uploaded
Adjustments — manual or Juno auto-applied adjustments
Total — the final adjusted amount; updates in real time as you make changes
Tax Category — assign the appropriate tax category using the dropdown
Notes — add preparer notes for any line item
Delete Row — Remove rows from the statement
What to do:
Review Juno's Insights & Action Items at the top of the modal. These flag specific entries that may need attention.
To make a manual adjustment, enter a value in the Adjustments column. The Total updates automatically.
Juno may apply automatic adjustments. To undo one, click Revert next to the entry.
Rows with a warning indicator should be reviewed before proceeding.
Use the Tax Category dropdown on each row to assign the correct category.
Once all line items are reviewed and tax categories are assigned, click Mark as Validated.
Step 8: Review and Validate the Balance Sheet
For each Balance Sheet document, you can complete a line-by-line validation. To open the validation screen click the “Review Data” button associated with the Balance Sheet.
The Balance Sheet is organized into three sections:
Assets
Liabilities
Stockholders' Equity
Similar to the P&L Statement you can make adjustments, change tax category and add notes to each line item.
As you make changes to the Balance Sheet values you’ll notice the Balance Indicator in the lower left of your screen will update. Click “View Changes” to see a full audit log of all changes made by your team and when and what actions led to the Balance Sheet being balanced.
Once all line items are reviewed and tax categories are assigned, click Mark as Validated.
Step 9: Download Your Workpaper and Export Data
Once all documents are validated you can complete the following actions:
On the Document Overview screen, click Download Workpaper. The workpaper will download as an Excel file.
Export the data into your tax software.
