The Juno and Karbon integration allows you to streamline tax preparation by syncing your Karbon clients and documents directly into Juno. Once connected, Juno will automatically import your clients, create tax preparations on their behalf, and pull in documents from their Karbon work items.
This connection also lets you add the Juno integration task to your Karbon Work Item Templates. See How to Add the Juno Integration Task to your Karbon Workflow to learn how.
Before You Begin
You'll need:
Admin access to your Juno organization
Admin access to your Karbon workspace
Your Karbon API key (steps below)
How to Connect Karbon to Juno
Step 1: Find Your Karbon API Key
In Karbon, go to Settings
Select Connected Apps
Find Juno in the list and click into it
Copy the Connection Token value shown
Step 2: Connect Karbon in Juno
In Juno, go to Organization → Integrations
Under the Karbon section, click Connect
Paste the API key you copied from Karbon
Step 3: Select Your Work Item Template
Once connected, you'll land on a screen listing your Karbon work item templates. Use the Search Template field to find a template if you are using several of them.
Select the checkbox next to each work item template you want to sync to Juno. For each one, you'll set:
Return Type — 1040, 1120, 1120-S, 1065, or Generic Business
Document Type — select all document types, or pick individual ones to exclude internal-only documents you don't want syncing to Juno
Sync History — All History, Past Year, Past 6 Months, Past 30 Days, From Today Onward, or Custom Date. Choosing Custom Date opens a calendar so you can pick the exact date Juno should start syncing from.
Click Continue.
Maintaining The Connection
Initial Import
After the connection is established, Juno will automatically:
Import clients from the work item templates you selected, going back as far as the Sync History setting you chose for that template
Create a tax preparation in Juno for each client. Please note, Juno does not consider a preparation used until you have actively started processing documents related to that work item by clicking into the preparation thus initiating the fetching of documents from Karbon
Sync the document types you selected for that template, excluding any document types you didn't choose
Ongoing Sync
Once connected, the integration stays active. When you create a new work item in Karbon using the selected template:
The client will automatically appear in Juno
Any documents you add to that Karbon work item will sync into Juno automatically upon entering the preparation
There's no need to re-run any setup or manually trigger a sync for new clients.
Starting a Preparation
Step 1: Select a Preparation in Juno
Once you’ve established the Juno and Karbon connection you can start a preparation by clicking into a client’s preparation in the Preparer screen in Juno.
Step 2: Karbon syncs documents from the work item to Juno
Once you open a preparation Juno will automatically pull in the documents associated with the work item you have selected.
Once Juno indicates the sync from Karbon is complete click “Continue” to proceed to data validation.
For more details on completing your preparation in Juno check out our Getting Started with Preparer guide.
