Return Usage Details in Juno

This article explains how return usage is calculated in Juno, when a return counts toward your preparation total, and where to check how many preparations you have remaining.

Updated today

When Does a Return Count as Used?

A return counts as a used preparation when document processing starts for the first documents in the preparation. This happens when you hit "Continue" after uploading files into Juno.

Note: For customers using the TaxDome integration, the moment you send a document to Juno, we will begin processing and move from Draft automatically. So a return is effectively used the moment you send the first document to Juno for a specific tax preparation.

When you hit "Continue", it moves out of the Draft state into "Needs Validation".

If You Delete a Return in Draft

If a return is deleted while still in the Draft state, it will not count as a preparation used.

If You Delete a Return After It Leaves Draft

Once a return progresses beyond the Draft state, it is considered used.

If you delete the return after that point, it will still count as a preparation used.

Are You Charged for Exporting a Return?

No, you are not charged based on how many times you export a preparation to your tax software. You may export a return multiple times without affecting your usage count. Return usage is based solely on whether the return has moved beyond the Draft state β€” not on export activity.

How to Check Preparations Remaining

You can view your remaining return usage within your Organization settings.

To check:

  1. Go to Organization

  2. Select Settings

  3. Review your preparation usage details

This area will show:

  • Total returns included in your plan

  • Returns processed

  • Returns remaining

If you believe a return was counted in error or have questions about your usage totals, please contact Customer Support via [email protected] or in live chat inside of the Juno Web App.
